About me

I'm a UX designer and researcher. For five years I've worked in healthcare, the high-stakes kind, building research infrastructure and clinical design systems, and the evidence a team needs to make good calls.

My best work happens in the messy middle, where the job is to win people over while learning the clinical side and trusting your own read of the research. In practice that has meant reframing a problem leadership had misdiagnosed, building a quantified research framework from nothing, and getting enough of the room aligned for the good decision to ship.

My Process

Deliberate, but flexible. I start by making sure the problem is the right one, which often means reframing how it first arrived. The research comes next, aimed at answers a team can act on. I believe design decisions get made on opinion until you build the infrastructure to make them on evidence, so I've built it: the weighted research frameworks and design systems and documentation a team trusts enough to use.

Constraints are always there, whether tight timelines, technical limits, or stakeholders to bring along. I pick the method that fits the problem in its context. Today I'm a UX designer at the University of Rochester Medical Center, leading research and design-systems work for digital experiences used by more than a million patients.

In my spare time...

Outside of work, I'm usually outside. Most of my miles are on a bike, road and gravel both, and a good trail or a good view is worth the detour. Concerts, hikes, a camera almost always in hand. Dropping myself somewhere new and taking it in is how I stay inspired.

Through my lens

Photography is how I pay attention. Most of what I shoot is street work around New York, chasing the light and the shadows and the small moments on a corner. It keeps my eye sharp for how people move through a space, which turns out to be most of the day job too.
